Emmanuel Osei does not remember exactly how many kilometres he has driven for GetTranzport, but he knows it is enough to circle the earth several times over. Since joining the platform in 2018, Emmanuel has completed over 4,000 trips across 14 countries, earning a 4.98-star rating and the admiration of passengers and fellow drivers alike.
I started driving because I love the road, Emmanuel tells us from his home in Accra, Ghana. But I stayed because of the people. Every trip is a story. Every passenger is someone with a destination that matters to them.
Emmanuel's most memorable journey took him from Accra to Ouagadougou, a 15-hour drive through Ghana, Togo, and Burkina Faso. The passenger was a medical researcher rushing to attend a conference. We hit a border delay in Togo that lasted three hours, Emmanuel recalls. But I had packed extra water, snacks, and even a portable charger. We made it with time to spare, and she gave me the most heartfelt thank-you I have ever received.
What sets Emmanuel apart is his meticulous preparation. Before every long-haul trip, he checks weather conditions, border wait times, road closures, and fuel station locations along the route. I treat every trip like a mission, he says. My passengers are trusting me with their time, their safety, and their plans. I do not take that lightly.
Emmanuel has also become a mentor to newer drivers on the platform. He runs an informal WhatsApp group where drivers share route tips, warn each other about road conditions, and offer encouragement. When you drive alone for hours, it helps to know you are part of a community, he explains.
His advice to new GetTranzport drivers is simple: be professional, be prepared, and be kind. The money is good, but the real reward is knowing you helped someone get where they needed to go, safely and on time.
When asked about his future plans, Emmanuel smiles. I want to hit 10,000 trips. And maybe one day, I will drive a passenger who is going somewhere I have never been. That is the beauty of this job — the road always has something new to show you.
